The 540-member Smith Special Forces fought at Jukmi-ryeong in Osan to oppose the 5,000 North Korean troops advancing south from Suwon toward Osan.

The members of Task Force Smith had to begin the battle with accumulated fatigue and lack of information about the enemy and equipment to fight.

About three hours after the battle began, a bloody fight began with members of Smith's unit firing salvos at the North Korean infantry.
