It has been a month since residents collectively resigned in protest against the government's plan to increase the number of medical students by 2,000.

The medical vacuum created by the absence of residents who are still learning their specialty is the bare face of Korean medical care, which has been maintained by cheap residents and nurses.

In the face of a crisis in essential medical care, doctors argue that compensation should be strengthened by significantly increasing fees.

The number of doctors practicing in Korea is 2.1 per 1,000 population (2.6 including Oriental medicine doctors), which is lower than the OECD average of 3.7 per 1,000 population.

Several studies have shown that there will be a shortage of more than 10,000 doctors in 2035, when population aging intensifies.

Without government support, it is predicted that there will continue to be a shortage of doctors in rural areas.
