Namgoong Won, the star of the Korean film industry, passes away: 90 years of life and shining footprints

Actor Namgoong Won (real name Hong Kyung-il), who left a mark in Korean film history with his Western appearance and outstanding acting skills, passed away on the 5th.

Namgoong-won, who had been fighting lung cancer for several years and stopped his external activities, breathed his last at Asan Hospital in Seoul in the afternoon.

In particular, his bold appearance and outstanding acting skills earned him the nickname 'Korea's Gregory Peck' as he was evaluated as resembling Hollywood star Gregory Peck.

In his later years, he received the spotlight through the activities of his son Hong Jeong-wook, chairman of Olganica, as a member of the National Assembly, and contributed to the development of the Korean film industry, including receiving the Silver Crown Order of Cultural Merit in 2016.
