MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama [Motel California] is available as a webtoon.

The webtoon is based on the web novel 'Home, Bitter Home' by author Shim Yun-seo, which is being serialized on Kakao Page, and taking advantage of the chemistry with the drama, it will be released under the title 'Home, Bitter Home: Motel California' on December 20th, a little ahead of the drama's broadcast.

Starting with the simultaneous opening of episodes 1 to 10 on Friday, one episode will be serviced each week through Kakao Page and Kakao Webtoon.

The webtoon 'Home, Bitter Home: Motel California' (planned by Corpus Korea/adapted, production studio Yosin) includes the dramas 'Dali and Gamjatang (2021)' and 'Mrs. Oks' (2024), as well as the webtoons 'Push and Dang Fairy' and 'Mall'.

Corpus Korea (CEO: Oh Young-seop), which has established itself as a comprehensive content company by producing 'Romantic Love in the Romantic Era', is planning webtoon 'Maebungu',

Studio Yosin, a webtoon production company that presented detailed yet unique stories and IP through programs such as 'New Farmer's Direct Story', is in charge of production and adaptation, raising expectations for collaboration between the two companies.

In particular, 'Home, Bitter Home: Motel California', which will be presented as a webtoon, maintains the worldview of dramas and web novels and focuses on the romance story centered on the main actors Lee Se-young (played by Ji Kang-hee) and Na In-woo (played by Cheon Yeon-soo).

It is expected to provide a different level of excitement than before, and with the newly designed characters and webtoon-specific directing, it is expected that you will be able to experience a different kind of fun through the different visuals that seem similar to the drama.

An official from MBC's IP Strategy Department, who planned/produced this webtoon service, said, "Just as the 2023 drama 'Lovers' was produced as a Kakao Page webtoon, creating a consumption structure where viewers and webtoon subscribers can enjoy the same IP in various ways, this drama 'Motel California'

' is launched as a webtoon a little before the drama, and we expect a virtuous cycle in which web novel subscribers watch the webtoon and then watch the drama. Furthermore, we are also planning an audiobook of the same program, so we are creating IP diversification.

“It’s a goal,” he said.
